The cottage, or you might call it a cabin or lodge, was built in 1896 and it used to be an old general store. The original hardwood floors and walls are still in place from that time and they hold a lot of history from the days when patrons would come to buy molasses and ginger ale for a nickel. The vintage feeling of the building is accentuated by antique furniture and rustic décor throughout the cottage.
Read the story on our blog, Memories of the Old Store, written by Franklin & Lorraine Lebans, of Barnettville. The story was originally printed in Bread n Molasses magazine and gives the history of the building (cottage) when it used to be an old general store owned by Mr and Mrs British Nathaniel Underhill.
